Age is more than just a number- specially, if you are a woman who has bid a grudging adieu to her 30s.

Women have always had an acute awareness of growing old. “Anti-ageing” products with 25-year old supermodels as their brand ambassadors, insta-happy millennials and youth-friendly entertainment have added to that awareness. Of course, the cultural conversation around ageing has never been louder. 

Women are surrounded by ideals of beauty all the time. At 40, It is the decade when the physical effects of ageing start to accrue- metabolism slows down, bone density deteriorates, fertility crashes, and skin starts to lose its tone.

Sri Sri Tattva’s Dr Sharika Menon gave us a few tips on how to embrace ageing with grace and maintain your youthful look.

Healthy Skin and Hair

What are the most important things to be done and habits to be adopted before you turn 40, so that you continue to have that supple youthful skin. Now that you're looking at how to get youthful skin at 40, nourishing yourself from the inside out is more important than ever.

You know the idea that you are what you eat? It applies to your skin, too. If you live off of junk food and sugar-laden eats; you are likely have a duller complexion that's also more prone to breakouts. 

Try cutting sugar from your diet and within days you'll notice a huge difference in your skin. 

Let’s start at the top with the mane attraction – your hair. What was once thick and lustrous may have started to become dull and grey. And even if you always had thinner hair, it’s hard to ignore there’s even less there to gripe about. 

So what’s going on? And more importantly, what can you do about it?

  1. Stack up on Collagen: Pomegranates are a great source of natural collagen.
  2. Increase your fibre intake: Veggies and roughage and whole grain
  3. Ensure you stay hydrated and moisturised, inside out: Body oils – abhyanga before shower, plenty of water, hydrate yourself
  4. Switch to natural fats and oils: inside out: inside have natural oils: Ghee, cold pressed oils, 
  5. Antioxidants, Vit C and Vit A: Amla, tablets, Triphala juice and tablets.

Time isn’t your friend when it comes to bone density. But no matter what your age, you can improve the health of your bones with these tips.
